Dan Wintersteen, a sought-after New York City based drummer, has been playing drums and percussion since 1990. At the age of 16, Dan was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 97 and performed professionally throughout the Western New York region with various ensembles in orchestral, musical theater and jazz settings. Dan briefly attended SUNY Fredonia School of Music and studied orchestral percussion under Dr. Kay Stonefelt.  In 2002 Dan moved to New York City to attend Purchase College where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies and studied jazz drumming with John Riley and Richie Morales.

 

Dan has performed and recorded with many different New York City based artists including Hurrah a Bolt of Light, Jeannine Hebb, Kristin Hoffmann, Suke Cerulo, Dave Bickler, Paper and Sand, Yours & Mine, Amber and the Little Criminals, Mieka Pauley to name a few and many others. Dan has maintained a busy performing schedule over the past decade and has performed at NYC venues such as Webster Hall, Hammerstein Ballroom, Highline Ballroom, Brooklyn Bowl, BB King Blues Club Mainstage, Rockwood Music Hall and more. Dan also is also the founder and co-bandleader of NYC based yacht rock tribute band, AM GOLD YACHT ROCK.

 

In addition to performing and recording, Dan teaches privately in the greater New York City area.  As an educator, Dan’s teaching provides students a foundation in technique, rudiments, style studies and sight-reading while leveraging individual talents and interests. 

In addition to drumming, Dan also specializes in live audio production for private events and public concerts.
